Computers in the Workplace

Information systems will continue to evolve in the next decade. As mentioned by Vahid & Lysecky (2017), “is a collection of hardware, software, and networks that people use to create, store, organize, and distribute information" (Chapter 9).  I currently work for the telecommunications industry, and we heavily use computers in our daily work life. From PCs to iPads and other mobile devices, technology is the core of our business in how we make sure our customers, and employees included stay connected with their loved ones through the sales and offering of mobile network solutions. I personally use my work laptop every day to check emails from my boss and to stay updated on any new promotion that we are launching, also we do weekly zoom calls for our district to make sure we stay connected and current with district sales objectives, operations and company-wide expectations. With our iPads our frontline team uses them to execute transactions and to look up customers accoun...

Traveling Through a Network

Image
As mentioned by Vahid & Lysecky (2017), “a computer communicates via the internet by sending a packet, containing information like an address for a destination computer, the data size, and the data itself (Section 3.1). In the initial lesson of this discussion we were tasked with opening command prompt and pinging three websites (one domestic and two international). The first website that I pinged was google.com, the ping statistics of that one was 4 packets of data send and 4 packets of data received with 0% data loss, next I tried to ping google.com.au (Australian version of Google engine) and it had similar results, 4 packets of data was send and 4 packets of data was received; also the minimum is 38ms and the maximum is 83ms. Lastly, I tried Google India, the ping results for this was different from the other sites, with 4 packets of data sent only 2 packets of data were received with a 50% data loss. The reason there was some loss in this was because it timed out a couple of t...

Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint are very effective productivity tools that are popular in the workplace and at home. They not only allow you to create documents and spreadsheets but serve as a great asset in presenting new ideas to audiences. The topics that will be explored are as follows: the functions between Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the pros and cons between them, real-life scenarios applications to daily life in work or personal life. Microsoft Word has plenty of functions to offer and is a great tool to take notes for personal or to use as a word processor for things relating to work or school. As mentioned by Vahid & Lysecky (2017), “a word processor is a common computer application for creating formatted text including and in reference to the features of a document like margins, text size, bold, ita...

Web/Mobile App Critique

One of my favorite apps to use on my phone is the Youtube application. One of the biggest reasons I enjoy using Youtube is because its very helpful in watching reviews of people figuring things out like small home repairs and watching reviews on the latest technology that is out. Youtube is largest and most widely used video sharing service. Youtube has grown so much from its humble beginnings in 2005, created by three former PayPal employees and as of 2014 generated ad revenue of approximately $1 billion (Vahid & Lysecky, 2017, Chapter 6).              The usability of the Youtube app is pretty easy for the most part. For instance when one goes into the application they are greeted by the videos that they would most likely watch, followed by the search bar at the very top, also in between the search bar and the videos you will find keywords of items that one has previously searched for that act as quick searches to filter v...

Experience With Programming Languages

Programming Languages   i.                 Describe your experience building a program using scratch a.       Scratch was very interesting and fun. At first glance it was difficult to navigate through the menu. Once I started watching the tutorial videos I understood all of the functions that existed when creating a program, including “motion”, “looks”, “sound”, “events”, “control” and “sensing” that helped make the program come to life. The objective that I wanted within the creation of this program was to conjure up a juvenile game that was fun and interactive. Here is the following URL to the program that was created: INT 100 Project on Scratch (mit.edu) . ii.               Identify the difficulties that you encountered in Scratch a.       Some of the issues I ran into when using sc...
