Tech Topic Connection
·
Discuss
how your selected tech topic connects to the fundamentals of information
technology covered in this course.
The
mobile technology industry has catapulted to become one of the fastest growing
and profitable industries in the market. From smartphones, tablets and IoT
devices to Amazon’s Alexa, mobile technology plays an influential role in our
daily lives. The age of computerized technology relating only in reference to
PC’s or Mac are over and have evolved into handheld devices. Processors, RAM,
camera modules, motherboards and LCD screens are fundamental types of parts
that are shared between PCs and mobile technology that we rely on today. These
components allow mobile devices to create, consume and disperse information to
other devices.
·
Explain
how your chosen tech topic relates to the concepts of information technology
and computer science, including the history of computers and the means by which
computers operate.
The
chosen tech topic is about mobile technology which encompasses several types of
devices including smartphones, tablets, wearables and IoT (Internet of Things)
devices that require a data connection in order to take advantage of its full
capability. As mentioned by Vahid & Lysecky (2017), information systems is “a collection of hardware, software, and networks that people
use to create, store, organize, and distribute information” (Section 9.1). In
relation to mobile technology, these smart devices have network capability that
allows them to connect the user to internet to provide services such as creating
information, logging information and sending information to servers. Hence
these abilities relate to the definition of information systems in how users
utilize these smart devices to distribute information.
·
Evaluate
how your chosen tech topic relies on the major hardware components and
functions of a modern computer system.
Mobile
technology which encompasses smart devices rely on major hardware components and
functions of a modern computer system. For example, the smartphone utilizes a
mobile processor that follows instructions and decodes it in order to execute
processes in the device. The smartphone also has RAM (random access memory),
which is used to open applications quickly, it retains information for the
short term so that it can be recollected easily. Also, smart phones contain
storage in the form of internal storage to save files and information that a
user creates and collects.
·
Explain
how your chosen tech topic uses programming languages and program execution
methods.
Mobile
technology including smart devices use two different mobile operating systems,
either Android or iOS. Java is the main programming language used in development
of Android applications. Objective-C is used as a programming language used to
develop applications for iOS (Lee, 2010, p.1).
·
Analyze
the role that application software plays in regards to your chosen tech topic.
Application
software plays a pivotal role in how mobile technology operates. For example
with a Galaxy S21 smartphone it uses the Android operating system developed by
Google in order for the user to operate the device and allowing them to
download applications that use the hardware and provides enhance operability to
the user, enriching their experience with the device.
·
Describe
how your chosen tech topic relates to the basic concepts of database and
database management.
As
mentioned by Vahid & Lysescky (2017), “is a collection
of data organized to enable efficient information retrieval” (Chapter 5). A smartphone
uses to safely store and retrieve information, especially through cloud
services. An example of this is when a user backs up their information to the cloud,
say for example if the user owns an iPhone, the user has the ability to back up
their contacts, pictures, messages, email and videos to the cloud in which their
information is securely kept and can easily be retrieved at anytime.
·
Illustrate
how the basic concepts of network architecture, management, and security
influence your chosen tech topic.
Mobile
technology including smartphones and other smart devices utilizes various
levels and types of security so that the user’s information is stored safely. For
example, in an iPad there are two ways a person can secure their information,
one is through the use of a passcode (four or six digits) and another way is
through the use of facial recognition. Both of these methods exist to help
deter unauthorized access into a user’s devices.
